PHOTOACOUSTIC RESONATOR

The photoacoustic resonator comprises a full acoustic wavelength, and has attached acoustic notch filters to provide convenient access of sample air, to separate the windows from the resonator, and to reduce the coupling of ambient noise into the resonator. Absorption of laser light by black carbon aerosol produces sound in the resonator. The system can be calibrated using nitrogen dioxide gas, and by use of calibrated microphones and laser power meters (photodiode).
